I couldn't put it down! This story will always have a place in my heart and be a swirl of inspiration in my imagination.
My friend Christen introduced me to Emilie's work years ago when they challenged each other to blog a book in a month. Emilie later published SiTS to Wattpad and that's where I read it. Only. This time there was SO much more to it. I didn't realize at the time that her Wattpad version was not yet finished. She is such a polished writer. I was so impressed. Over time, this story would flitter through my mind and I would miss the characters and wonder when the next book was coming out.
Needless to say, I was so thrilled to Kickstart this project and read, read, read that I pretty much neglected the house for the entire weekend. My husband and children are very understanding.
What had me so enthralled? I'll show you:
"The Greatest Showman" meets "Star Wars" in this fun and thrilling YA science fantasy about a girl in hiding and a boy on the run.
On the circus spaceship Midway in the Xerus Galaxy, Soaring Staress, Talie Zarna, is coerced into hiding rogue soldier Renner Cartha who is on a mission to deliver sensitive information regarding a political assassination. Forced on the run by Jas Uli-Tai, Renner’s former guard captain, they must remain undetected despite warrants for their arrest. When they discover corruption has spread to the highest echelons of Xerus’s governing council, Talie must decide if she is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of saving her galaxy, even if that means giving up the boy she loves.
No joke, I was so pleased at how EA fashioned her own universe and crafted her story, all while tipping her hat to two epic fandoms. Snark and banter are my favorite, plus there was JUST enough romance to swoon over.
Renner was smart and masculine without being a jerk about it. His military service kept them out of more than one scrape.
Talie was graceful and had a quick wit. They made a great team, both in the circus and out of it.
Everything read at such a great pace and all the characters were unique and described so well. No one felt like a filler. No scenes were flat. There was suspense, but I didn't feel stressed out while reading. BUT THE WORLDS, THO.
EA had flawless descriptions. Each place had a specific color in my mind. It was refreshing to get thoroughly lost in a setting. I was able to use each of my senses while reading (yes, even smell and taste) and I just could not wait to see how each scene unfolded and how she'd use each bit of detail.
Finally, each twist took me by surprise in the best way possible. Delightful.
Guess what? There are even goodies for those that preorder! Aren't they pretty?! Snatch up yours today and grab your popcorn. It's the BEST show.
I purchased the paperback through E. A. Hendryx's Kickstarter and was also provided a free digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
